Blue Corner Freedive was established with the vision that beginner-level training would be approached with compassion, and that people who might be terrified of the sport would have the opportunity to learn something new about themselves.
We focus on a safe and comfortable learning environment where students can progress at their own pace and take the most away from the experience. While freediving courses are largely marketed as “certifications,” we believe the end result is being as comfortable as possible in the water, not just attaining a depth or goal. We do not yet have the ambitions nor the facilities to offer competitive freedive training, and instead plan to expand “out'“ (with a Canadian accent) rather than “down.” This expansion will include retreat offerings, surf survival, dedicated yoga and meditation classes, and conservation freediving.
Nusa Lembongan is a beautiful little paradise island, home to epic surf breaks, world-class scuba diving and beautiful local culture. It is located 25 minutes from mainland Bali. We enjoy the relaxed island life but also don’t let it get to us too much. Our passion is teaching, so the more we are in the water- the better.
What we are looking for in an instructor:
An ideal fit for us will hinge heavily on personality, so while the list below is full of prerequisites that we are looking for, it is by no means inclusive or exclusive of our hiring process. Instructors of all levels and experience are encouraged to apply, regardless of whether you meet the requirements below.
Freediver Instructor certification. We predominantly teach the PADI programs here, but instructors of all certification agencies should apply. More on that during the interview process.
Additional experience in yoga, conservation, or scuba diving is advantageous but not required.
An ability to adapt to a new teaching environment and be flexible with teaching strategy and curriculum. We have incredible conditions here on Nusa Lembongan, but we dive with the tides. Instructors must be willing to be light on their feet and ready to change plans and adapt. It’s more fun anyway.
A passion for teaching comes first. We want a freedive instructor, not just a good freediver. Experience helps, but compassion and dedication helps more.
Work ethic. We get busy, and we need an instructor who is reliable, hard-working, and can take care of themselves physically. We’re freedivers, we can do that.
An understanding of social media marketing, booking and logistics, and basic accounting procedures.
Additional languages are a plus but not a requirement.
What will be provided for the right candidate:
We are determined to find the right person and are willing to offer a competitive and fair incentive. Following a probation trial period of a determined length, the candidate will be offered:
A work permit for Indonesia
A basic salary to help cover living expenses on the island.
Competitive commission on every course taught and every package or piece of equipment sold.
Support to continue to progress and train as a freediver.
The opportunity to expand your skills to conservation freediving, underwater photography, retreat operations, and scuba diving (if you wish).
