Freediving Techniques | Movement & Breath | NeuroConservation
Through years of experience, we have developed teaching styles incorporating many lateral aspects of freediving to help students succeed. We employ knowledge drawn from yoga, meditation, breathwork, and mindset to arm candidates with the tools to creatively pave the path for students. Unlike many other sports, Freediving shows that one size does not fit everyone. A good freedive instructor (in our opinion) can work with the students, meet them where they are, and provide experienced knowledge to facilitate their understanding.
We also strongly believe that as a Freedive Instructor, we carry a responsibility not only to keep our students safe but to instill a sense of respect and connection with the ocean. When we train to be a natural part of the ocean, we develop a deeper understanding of our role in protecting and conserving it. Freediving should be about living in harmony with the ocean, not attempting to conquer or overcome it. Our goal is to put out instructors who will embody the role of ocean ambassadors.

There are a number of freediving certification agencies that all offer their version of teaching methodology. While it is important to train with an agency you align with, the real experience starts with your first students. We offer PADI as our teaching style, but infuse knowledge and experience that spans far beyond just the minimum requirements.

If you are aleady a certified PADI OWSI Instructor, you can enter the IT course only holding a PADI Advanced Freediver rating. This does make the entry pre-reqs a bit less, but does not mean that you have the necessary competence, comfort or stamina required to be a safe instructor. We encourage all OWSI instructors to reach out so we can evaluate your comfort case by case and determine if further training is necessary.

Our more holisitic teaching methods cover foundational training that we believe will make safe and effective instructors. Our aim, and the design of this course, is to mold instructors adept at lateral modalities beyond just the technical aspects of freediving. Through our lifestyle-led teaching methodology, we churn out instructors capable of meeting students where they are, and with the creative ability to navigate individual learning obstacles.
